Officer-Involved Shootings in Colorado Since New Year’s Day

January 6, 2014 – Colorado:
Since the start of the New Year, Colorado has seen a concerning spike in officer-involved shootings, with four incidents reported in just the first week of 2014.

These events include:

  • A fatal shooting by police in Aurora involving a domestic violence suspect.
  • An incident in El Paso County, where deputies shot a man allegedly brandishing a weapon.
  • A police confrontation in Loveland, where officers opened fire on a suspect in a standoff.
  • A fatal shooting in Englewood, where an officer responded to a suspicious vehicle call.

Former Pueblo County Sheriff and law enforcement consultant Dan Corsentino commented on the rise of such incidents, noting the need for deeper analysis on trends in police interactions and public safety protocols. He emphasizes the importance of reviewing training, community policing strategies, and transparency in the aftermath of these events.

As public concern grows, so too does the call for more comprehensive data and reforms related to the use of force in policing.
